Visiting Solvang: The Little Danish Town


If you've ever wanted to experience Danish food and architecture, but haven't been able to go to Europe, then it may actually be closer than you think.


Solvang is a little Danish town located in Santa Inez Valley in California.


This small town is filled with Danish architecture and bakeries with traditional pastries, making it a unique getaway. Strolling around, you can see popular Danish icons like the large windmill, red clog, and Little Mermaid fountain, immediately making you feel as of you've transported to another place.


One of the things that make this such a popular destination are the bakeries that carry authentic Danish pastries such as butter cookies, Sarah Bernhardt's, and rum balls. A must-try while you're here is one of the most popular dishes in Solvang, Aebleskiver, which you can find in any café.

There are also plenty of little shops and boutiques ranging from clothes, souvenirs, art and more. When you feel like grabbing a bite to eat, you can choose from over 30 restaurants and cafes. They have a variety of dining options that range from casual to finer dining so there's an option for everyone.



If you are looking for more activities, you can also visit some historical museums and churches. Solvang is home to Old Mission Santa Ines and Bethany Lutheran Church. For those who want a more unique experience can check out Solvang's Ostrich Farm.


After dinner, you can have a drink with friends at one of Solvang's wine tasting rooms. Solvang is in the middle of wine country and offer several local wines for people to try.
